Pressure washer

Can regular detailers recommend a good pressure washer?  I'm bored of Karchers and Nilfisks breaking all the time.  They're cheap junk these days.

Are petrol powered ones any good and longer lasting?

Kranzle any good?  Never heard of them but they look robust!

The problem is I don't clean the car that often and I think cheap PWs sitting around for so long just break.  Reliability is more important to me than features and power tbh.

i have one of these, had it for probably 6 years and it's still working. I use a snowfoam attachment and the spinny round patio cleaner is good for doing the drive and the patio.

We have had our Nilfisk 6/7 years and except a few hose seals its been faultless.

Blimey, your Nilfisks have done well.  I had 2 of them break on me.  One of them inside the warranty luckily, and they just replaced the whole unit instead of fixing it, so clearly not a lot can be 'fixed' inside.  That one failed a year later also.  Same story with Karchers.

I think I might go for a Kranzle 10/122 TS.  Pretty bomb proof after some research.  Expensive but I've spent considerably more on 5 Karchers/Nilfisks in the past decade!

15hp!!  Christ, looks like a mobility on scooter on steroids 

I did look at genuine Honda washers as they are pretty much universally regarded as buy and forget.....but mega bucks.  I'm not sure my neighbours would appreciate the racket of a petrol washer tbh.  Don't have the luxury of living in the sticks!

Did detailing in my younger days and eventually set up mobile on my own for a couple of years too.

I’d definitely go for a petrol pressure washer over kranzle/karcher/nilfisk anyday. Even the cheaper Chinese versions are good these days.

Have a look on eBay or gumtree for a used Honda one ideally with an interpump water pump on it and it will never go wrong. I’ve had mine getting on 10 years, it’s been thrown in and out of vans, used for hours and hours in one go cleaning driveways, borrowed to mates for weeks on end and it’s still going strong.

Also there not as loud as you think, no louder than a petrol lawnmower.

I had a Honda petrol lawn mower years ago and it was a tank and only needed a new blade every few years.  Utterly dependable.  I am kind of swerving towards a petrol washer and will probably fork out for a Honda in all honesty.  Good tips on a second hand one though, didn't consider that

Couldn't find a used Honda at a reasonable price for a relatively youthful one, so will save that for when I move out to the country.

Living in a terrace, I am a little conscious of noise levels and a lack of storage space (no sheds), so I went with the Kranzle.  Here it is parked next to a pair of size 9 wellies for reference.  It's absolutely tiny!

Compared to a retail grade Karcher, there is absolutely no comparison in build quality.  The power cord is soft and rubbery and plenty long enough, as is the water hose. 

One of my biggest issues with cheap washers is the rigid hoses getting curled up walking round the car, and also the ease of which the washer would fall over as there's no weight to them. Don't have that problem with the Kranzle as it's a 23Kg utter lump of a thing!  Another shortcoming of cheap washers is the short lance, meaning you have to lean over for extended periods to clean patios etc.   The Kranzle lance and gun is about a metre long, so no hunched back syndrome 

I can definitely recommend it to someone who wants a very well made and robust unit that will last for years   

Anyway, don't like the price, but love the over engineering of it.  It's no noisier than any other washer I've owned/heard to be honest.  I read online of it being hideously noisy, but not so.  The smaller 7/122 is whisper quiet running at half the speed of my 10/122, but I wanted the extra flow of the 10

@Pudding You get a like for the Araucaria araucana (Monkey puzzle) tree. 

Probably needs potting up into something bigger. They don't like their roots disturbed, so maybe put it in something a bit OTT now so you don't have to do it again in the next few years.

@Stupots That Monkey Puzzle has been in that pot for  7 years!  I need to shift it (and 2 Chusan Palms) into MUCH bigger pots, I completely agree     Thing is, the size of pots I need are about £250 each     I'm thinking about building a mega pot from salvage railway sleepers to house all 3.  Not sure yet.  One of my favourite trees though, thanks for the interest
